Why this escape is yours

A UNESCO-listed coastline of steep terraces, pastel villages and gardens hung above the sea. It rewards arriving slowly, by boat where possible, and staying long enough to ignore the itinerary.

  • Days start with a swim from the rocks and end with a boat back along the cliffs.

Season: Many hotels on the coast are seasonal and close through the winter. July and August are the most crowded months. Best months: May, June, September, October.

3 days in The Amalfi Coast

A practical, unhurried outline to adapt as you like. Check opening times and reservations before you go.

  1. Arrive by sea

    Transfer from Naples and settle in. In the evening, walk down through Positano to the beach for an early dinner by the water.

  2. Ravello's gardens

    Have a driver take you up to Ravello for the gardens of Villa Rufolo and the belvedere of Villa Cimbrone. Return for a late swim.

  3. A day on the water

    Charter a boat for the coves and grottoes of the coast, with lunch at a beach restaurant reached only by sea.

Naples (NAP)

Allow roughly 75 minutes to two hours by road to Positano or Ravello, depending on traffic. In season, a car to the port and a boat along the coast is an elegant alternative.

The coast road is narrow and winding, and it is congested in summer. Parking in the villages is scarce and expensive.

How to travel

Private driver and boat

A local driver takes the coast road so you can look at it, and a private boat reaches the grottoes, beaches and Capri.

Why not a car? We do not recommend self-driving here in season. The coast road is demanding, parking is scarce, and the best views are from the water.
